Our Mission

Welcome to our web site! Bamboo Bell is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public on the shakuhachi, the Japanese bamboo flute.

We do this by providing performances, lessons, workshops, and recordings, specializing in honkyoku (Zen) music.

We encourage individuals with a spiritual path, such as Zen practice, meditation, yoga, tai-chi, bodywork, chi-gung, aikido, to browse our shakuhachi recordings. Our music can be used to improve your understanding of yourself and your art.

About the Director

Nelson Lee has studied shakuhachi for twelve years, four of which were spent in intensive study in Japan. Lee now lives in Santa Cruz, California, where he performs, records, and teaches shakuhachi.
